Have an Ethnic Summer

So many different trends going on this season! Amongst others, eastern exoticism or 'Ethnic Chic' has been reviewed by the major fashion sources for being very much the thing for this summer. "Ethnic" is when fashion goes global and seeks inspiration from across the continents. Africa, the Caribbean or India, the choice is yours. If you love the trend but don't know which brands to shop for we suggest you try such labels as Antik Batik, Diane Von Furstenberg, Yves Saint Laurent, Dolce & Gabbana and Missoni.

Sticking with Fendi

According to British Vogue, Karl Lagerfeld confirmed this week that he has signed a new "long-term" contract with Fendi, having already been there for half of the house's 80-year history. "He is a key player in Fendi's success," said LVMH boss Bernard Arnault. "Four or five years down the road, Fendi will be a top Italian brand."

He may be one of the most famous and respected figures in fashion, but Karl Lagerfeld balks at the suggestion that he is an institution. "The moment you stop and think about your past, the magic starts to fade," he says. "Change is the healthiest way to survive."

What we know is that Fendi is already such a success with the fashion world, we can only expect the best from Lagerfeld's choice to stick with Fendi.

Dior's Big 100 !

What else could the world of fashion be talking about at this time if it isn't the celebration of legendary French designer Christian Dior's 100th anniversary?

And how could we forget the man behind the "New Look" of the late 40s...

Celebrations began in May in Normandy. The range of festival events to honor the notable designer comprises a major exhibition, a fashion photography show, a vintage car rally, a film festival and sports tournaments.

The exhibition, called "Christian Dior – Man of the Century", will be showcased at Dior's childhood home-turned-museum in Granville on the northwest coast of France from May 15 to September 25. According to Christian Dior Couture chairman Sidney Toledano, Dior's family villa and its garden in Granville were "sources of inspiration for him" and thus were a perfect place to pay honor to the great man.

"With him, I learned what true elegance was. Without him, I would not be Pierre Cardin," said the 82-year-old French couturier who was Dior's first employee, working with him for three years.

"He is still very much present," said the creative director for Christian Dior John Galliano. "I wish I could have met him, and sometimes I still ask for his advice. I think we would have had a lot in common."

What's "in"?

Hi again! As usual, this season lends itself to a lot of different fashion changes. Colours white, blue and gold, floral prints and safari make a comeback, wedge sandals and tunics are becoming equally popular and expensive jeans still reign supreme. We particularly liked these pieces from designers Marni, Dolce & Gabbana, James Jeans and Kate Spade (all available at Bluefly):

style #1065999 available sizes: US 8 (ITA 42) style #1066155 available sizes: US (EUR 37) US 10 (EUR 40) style #1060819 available sizes: 25 26 style #1070630

Amidst all the frenzy, it is good to remember however, that although fashion promotes perpetual change, the key to true style is to pick what you like out of each fashion and be able to wear it even when the trend is gone. So if low-waisted jeans suit you better, if you love your chinese sequin slippers or if you can't live without your UGGs don't throw them away. If the clothing suits you, it will always attract compliments. Find out what lies behind the labels you wear and invest in good quality clothing at lower prices. Till next time ;-)
