News in the fashion world is buzzing as fashion shows for New York fashion week's spring-summer 2009 went off with spectacular levels of success. Amongst the brilliant and talented designers showing off their newly inspired couture clothing on the catwalks recently, Donna Karan's DKNY label struck a mark on the audience with her new maternity range consisting in signature clothing and sexy colourful dresses, skirts and trousers for pregnant women, which was displayed as part of the DKNY label's 20th anniversary celebrations held in September. The range will be out in the shops throughout the US next spring.

Gucci's Birthday Celebrations!

Celebrations have been underway since July 8th to mark super-stylish haute-couture designer label Gucci's 70th birthday. Gathering many celebrities including Hollywood actresses Claire Danes and Patricia Arquette to the memorable city of Rome in the heart of Italy, the guests were treated to an exclusive catwalk show, followed by a private dinner and party all held within the beautiful Villa Aurelia which sits at the highest point within Rome's city walls. The collection, designed by Frida Giannini was largely inspired by the 70's with a rock, funky and colourful edge. The show also included, as a tribute to Rome, five evening gowns which immediately went on sale in Gucci's very cool Rome boutique.

Yves Saint Laurent Tribute

A lasting tribute was paid by all the leading figures in the fashion and media world in honour of the death of pioneering French designer Yves Saint Laurent who passed away on 2nd June 2008, aged 71. The designer was remembered as the inventor of the specially tailored women's suit and the first fashion designer along with such great masters as Christian Dior and Giorgio Armani to elevate haute couture to the rank of art. He also left behind him a legacy in making fashion more original and accessible to all women. As his long-time friend Pierre Bergé remembers him, Yves Saint Laurent was recognized by many, according to him, as having inspired women towards 'empowerment'.
